Last year, I began homeschooling my 13 year old son due to an ice hockey injury. It has worked out very well for us. There is flexibility, but it does require structure and discipline.
We use California Virtual Academy. They provide a really great and easy to follow program called k-12. We have a teacher that we are in constant contact with and his progress is monitered.

http://www.k12.com/getk12/Homeschooling can be a bit isolating, so it's important to maintain a social life. My son has several friends that he sees almost daily and is back to playing ice hockey. Also, make sure that you have a little break fom each other...(my son goes to his dad's every weekend...lol)..otherwise it can be very difficult to work together.
